New Zealand Sees Hotel Indigo’s Grand Opening In Auckland With A Stunning Fusion Of Heritage Design And Contemporary Luxury - Travel And Tour World (1)

Hotel Indigo, part of esteemed luxury and lifestyle collection, has officially launched its first property in New Zealand with the opening of Hotel Indigo Auckland. Situated in the heart of Midtown, this highly anticipated hotel blends the rich cultural heritage of Auckland with modern design, providing a fresh and vibrant destination for both visitors and locals in the iconic City of Sails.

A Fusion of History and Modern Elegance

Hotel Indigo Auckland stands proudly on the site of a former 1912 motor house that once imported Cadillacs to New Zealand. The hotel’s design pays homage to the building’s industrial past while introducing striking modern architecture, resulting in a seamless fusion of heritage and innovation. The space is filled with stunning interiors and curated artworks, turning each corner into an immersive cultural journey.

One of the hotel’s standout features is its exclusive art collection, featuring a series of original works curated by celebrated New Zealand contemporary artist and photographer Stuart Robertson. Known for his project Peace in 10,000 Hands, Robertson’s bespoke photographic exhibition spans the hotel’s 25 floors. Each floor tells a unique story of Auckland’s evolution, capturing the soul of its neighborhoods and reflecting the city’s vibrant modern culture.

A Tribute to Local Artistry and Design

Incorporating local artistry into every aspect of the design, the hotel’s lobby is a dynamic space, thanks to the collaboration with renowned stylist Simone Haag. Guests can admire handcrafted paintings, sculptures, ceramics, and glasswork, along with a stunning collection of leather creations. Furthermore, multidisciplinary artist Raukura Turei has crafted two significant installations, using natural materials from her ancestral land to explore spiritual connections with Māori traditions and the environment.

Inspired by the Neighbourhood, Tailored for Comfort

Located on Albert Street in Auckland’s bustling Midtown, Hotel Indigo Auckland offers an elevated experience, with panoramic views of the city skyline and harbor. The hotel occupies 27 of the 41 stories in this towering landmark, providing 225 rooms, including 10 accessible options. Every room draws inspiration from the building’s motoring history, with automotive-themed touches such as rear-view mirrors above king-size beds, industrial-style wardrobes, and light fixtures reminiscent of car headlights. The rooms’ design also includes Auckland’s streets depicted on the carpets, linking guests to the city’s rich urban fabric.

The hotel’s mini-bar offers a taste of New Zealand with Kokako organic drip coffee, locally crafted Karma Drinks, Flox-designed 1907 artesian water, and Zealong Tea Estate selections. For added luxury, the bathrooms are equipped with premium GHD hairdryers and MARACA body and hair care products made exclusively in New Zealand for Hotel Indigo Auckland.

A Culinary Destination Like No Other

Hotel Indigo Auckland’s culinary offerings are led by Bistro Saine, a refined yet approachable French-Mediterranean restaurant helmed by Executive Chef Yutak Son. Chef Son, a Korean-born, French-trained culinary expert, blends traditional European brasserie techniques with fresh Mediterranean influences, taking inspiration from the culinary regions of Southern France, Italy, and Spain. Guests can also unwind at Café Etiquette, a stylish café and wine bar, or enjoy crafted cocktails at The Henry, a chic cocktail lounge that evokes the ambiance of iconic bars in New York, London, and Paris.

Perfectly Situated for Business and Leisure

Hotel Indigo Auckland’s location places it near key landmarks, including the New Zealand International Convention Centre (opening in February 2026), Sky Tower, SkyCity Casino, the Britomart precinct, Wynyard Quarter, and the Viaduct, making it an ideal base for both business and leisure travelers.

Matt Tripolone, Managing Director of IHG Hotels & Resorts for Australasia & Pacific, added, “The debut of Hotel Indigo in Auckland marks a significant milestone for IHG, bringing our boutique brand to New Zealand and offering a fresh and exciting luxury experience to the region.”
